WebP to GIF Converter
Open an animated WebP anywhere by turning it into a GIF. Everything happens in your browser: pick the size and frame rate, decide how transparency is handled, and download the result or a ZIP of several.
Files never leave your device.
A GIF plays at 50 frames per second at most. Very short frames are merged and the animation keeps its length.
How to convert WebP to GIF
- Choose your WebP files. Drop up to 20 WebP files, animated or still, or click to pick them. The files are decoded on your device and never uploaded.
- Set the output. Leave the size on Original, or scale the longest side to 512, 256, 128 or your own number. Cap the frame rate if you want a lighter GIF. Pick a size limit such as 256 KB or 10 MB if you have one to meet.
- Choose how transparency looks. GIF can show a pixel or hide it, but nothing in between. Keep the transparency and blend soft edges with a color, or replace transparent areas with a solid background.
- Download the GIFs. Compare each GIF with its WebP, then download them one by one or as a single ZIP.
Why convert WebP to GIF
WebP is a modern image format that stores animations in much smaller files than GIF. The trouble starts when you try to use one: some chat apps, forums, e-mail clients, presentation software and older image viewers do not play animated WebP, or show it as a still picture or a broken file. GIF plays almost everywhere, so converting is the quickest way to get a file that just works. Expect the GIF to be larger than the WebP, because GIF has far weaker compression.
Animated and still WebP
An animated WebP becomes an animated GIF with the same frames and the same timing, and it loops forever unless you choose to play it once. A still WebP becomes a GIF with a single frame, which the page points out before you download it. If you only need a still picture in another format, a GIF is not the best container, but it is a handy one when an app only accepts GIF.
Works the same in every browser
Some browsers can decode animated WebP frame by frame themselves. Others, such as Firefox, cannot, so for those files the converter reads the WebP container directly, decodes each frame with the browser's image decoder and puts the frames together with the right blending and disposal rules. The result is the same GIF whichever browser you use.
Transparent WebP and GIF edges
WebP supports smooth, partial transparency. GIF supports only fully see-through or fully solid pixels. The converter turns soft edge pixels into solid ones by blending them with an edge color, so cut-out pictures do not get a dark outline. Use the dark swatch for dark backgrounds and white for light ones, or choose any color. If the GIF will be shown on an unknown background, fill the transparent areas with a solid color instead.
Frame rate, size and limits
GIF timing is stored in hundredths of a second, and browsers play frames shorter than 20 milliseconds as 100 milliseconds. To avoid that, the converter merges very short frames and keeps the animation's total length. The frame-rate menu can also cap the speed at 30, 20 or 15 frames per second, which is the quickest way to shrink a GIF. If a platform limits file size, pick a limit from Keep under and the tool lowers colors and frames only as far as needed. For more control, send the result to the GIF compressor.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a WebP to a GIF?
Drop the WebP file into the tool, choose a size and frame rate if you want to change them, and download the GIF. The conversion happens in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
Can I convert an animated WebP to an animated GIF?
Yes. Every frame and its timing are kept, and the GIF loops forever unless you pick Play once. Browsers that cannot decode animated WebP themselves use a built-in fallback.
Why is the GIF bigger than my WebP?
WebP compresses animations much better than GIF, so the same frames take more space as a GIF. Lower the frame rate, choose a smaller size or set a Keep under limit to bring it down.
What happens to transparency?
GIF only allows pixels that are fully see-through or fully solid. Soft edges are blended with the edge color you choose, or you can fill transparent areas with a solid background.
Can I convert several WebP files at once?
Yes, up to 20 at a time. Each gets its own download, and you can download them all as one ZIP.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 20MB, and very long animations are limited to 600 frames by merging frames while keeping the length. Phones may accept less than computers.
