Compress GIF to 1MB
Bring a GIF down to 1 MB, the limit for an auto-scaling Twitch animated emote or a Kick emote.
Files never leave your device.
Any limit you type. The tool treats 1 MB as 1024 KB.
Aiming for 993.3 KB or less, a few percent under 1 MB to leave a safety margin.

- Animated emote (auto-scaling): One square GIF from 112×112 to 4096×4096, up to 1 MB and at most 60 frames.
- Animated emote (auto-scaling): The first frame is used as the thumbnail. Animations must not flash more than 3 times per second. Emotes go through manual review.
- Static emote (auto-scaling): One square PNG from 112×112 to 4096×4096, up to 1 MB. Twitch scales it down to the three required sizes.
- Emote: PNG or GIF under 1 MB. The help center says "500px x 500px"; it is unclear whether that is a required size or a maximum. This tool exports exactly 500×500, which satisfies both readings.
- Emote: Third-party guides say uploads are cropped to a square.
Last checked: 2026-10-23. KB and MB are treated as 1024-based (256 KB = 262,144 bytes). Platforms rarely say which they mean, so the tool aims a few percent below the stated limit. Limits are rechecked every quarter.
How to make a GIF under 1MB
- Check the size box. It is set to 1024 KB (1 MB). Make sure your emote art is square first; the emote resizer can crop or pad it.
- Drop your GIF. Everything stays in your browser.
- Check the frame count. Twitch animated emotes may have at most 60 frames. The result table shows the frame count of your output so you can check it before uploading.
Where 1MB is the limit
Twitch's auto-scaling upload takes one square image from 112×112 to 4096×4096 up to 1 MB, and an animated one may have at most 60 frames. Kick asks for PNG or GIF emotes at 500×500 pixels and under 1 MB. If you are making emotes for both, one 500×500 source works for each.
Large squares fill 1MB fast
A 500×500 or larger animation costs far more bytes per frame than a 112×112 one. If your result is over 1 MB, the most efficient levers are shortening the loop and reducing the frame count; Twitch's 60-frame limit already caps the length at two seconds for 30 frames per second.
Making a Kick emote? The Kick emote resizer exports exactly 500×500 and checks the 1 MB limit. For Twitch, see the Twitch emote resizer.
