- Static emote (manual sizes): Three PNGs at 28×28, 56×56 and 112×112.
- Static emote (manual sizes): The subscriber emote guide says each file must be under 100 KB while the general emote rules only mention 1 MB. This tool checks against the stricter 100 KB value.
- Animated emote (manual sizes): Three GIFs at 28×28, 56×56 and 112×112, each up to 512 KB and at most 60 frames.
- Animated emote (auto-scaling): One square GIF from 112×112 to 4096×4096, up to 1 MB and at most 60 frames.
- Animated emote (auto-scaling): The first frame is used as the thumbnail. Animations must not flash more than 3 times per second. Emotes go through manual review.
- Static emote (auto-scaling): One square PNG from 112×112 to 4096×4096, up to 1 MB. Twitch scales it down to the three required sizes.
- Custom emoji: Under 256 KB (the developer docs write 256 KiB). Uploaded up to 128×128 px and displayed at 32×32.
- Emote: PNG or GIF under 1 MB. The help center says "500px x 500px"; it is unclear whether that is a required size or a maximum. This tool exports exactly 500×500, which satisfies both readings.
- Emote: Third-party guides say uploads are cropped to a square.
Last checked: 2026-10-23. KB and MB are treated as 1024-based (256 KB = 262,144 bytes). Platforms rarely say which they mean, so the tool aims a few percent below the stated limit. Limits are rechecked every quarter.
How to resize an emote for every platform
- Pick a platform. Choose Twitch static, Twitch animated, Discord emoji, Kick, or enter your own size and KB limit.
- Add your image. Drop a PNG, GIF, WebP or JPEG. For a non-square image, choose how to make it square: crop (drag the selection to frame it) or pad with transparent edges.
- Download. Each size shows a tick or a cross for the platform rules. Download one file at a time or all of them in a ZIP.
What each platform needs
Twitch takes either one large square image that it scales down for you, or three files at 28×28, 56×56 and 112×112 that you upload yourself. Animated Twitch emotes are GIFs with at most 60 frames. Discord custom emoji are uploaded at up to 128×128 and must be under 256 KB. Kick asks for 500×500 and under 1 MB.

Crop or pad to make it square
All of these platforms use square emotes. If your art is not square, cropping keeps the emote full but cuts off the edges you drag the selection away from. Padding keeps every pixel and adds transparent bars. The preview shows the result on dark and light chat backgrounds so you can check transparent edges before uploading.
Frame count and flashing for animated emotes
Twitch animated emotes may have at most 60 frames, so longer animations are thinned automatically and the delays are adjusted to keep the timing. Twitch also does not allow flashing more than 3 times per second. The tool runs a rough brightness check between frames and warns you when it looks risky. It is only a reminder, not a guarantee of approval, because Twitch reviews emotes by hand.
Frequently asked questions
What size should Twitch emotes be?
Twitch accepts one square image from 112×112 to 4096×4096 that it scales for you, or three files at 28×28, 56×56 and 112×112. Static emotes are PNG and animated emotes are GIF.
Can I make Twitch, Discord and Kick emotes from the same file?
Yes. Switch the platform and the tool re-renders from your original image each time, so every size is scaled from the source rather than from a smaller copy.
Does the emote resizer upload my art?
No. Resizing, cropping and encoding all run in your browser and the files are cleared when you leave the page.
Why does the tool drop frames from my animated emote?
Twitch allows at most 60 frames per animated emote. When your GIF has more, the tool removes frames evenly and adds their delay to the frames that remain so the animation keeps its speed.
Can I convert several emotes at once?
Yes, up to 10 files at a time. Each file gets its own set of sizes and its own pass or fail checks.
