Discord sticker requirements

• Sticker: Exactly 320×320 px and no larger than 512 KB.
• Sticker: Sources disagree on animated format: the support FAQ lists APNG, while a Discord blog post says APNG or GIF. This tool outputs APNG by default and lets you switch to GIF.

Last checked: 2026-10-16. KB and MB are treated as 1024-based (256 KB = 262,144 bytes). Platforms rarely say which they mean, so the tool aims a few percent below the stated limit. Limits are rechecked every quarter.

How to convert a Discord sticker to a GIF

1. Add your stickers. Drop one or several files: an APNG (a .png that moves), a PNG, an animated WebP or a GIF. They are read on your device and never uploaded. Lottie (.json) stickers are not supported yet.
2. Choose the size and frame rate. Original size keeps the sticker as it is, usually 320×320. 160 px is about how big Discord shows a sticker, and 128 px is the Discord emoji size. Keep the original timing, or cap the frame rate at 30, 20 or 15.
3. Decide how transparency is handled. A GIF pixel is either see-through or solid. Keep the transparency and pick the color its soft edges blend into, or fill the background with a solid color.
4. Download. Each GIF shows next to the original so you can compare. Download them one at a time, or all together as a ZIP.

What a Discord sticker file really is

Custom Discord stickers are PNG when they do not move and APNG when they do, exactly 320×320 pixels, up to 512 KB, and at most 5 seconds long. An APNG keeps the .png extension, so a downloaded sticker looks like a plain picture, and many apps and chat clients show only its first frame. Stickers from Discord's own packs are usually Lottie animations, which are JSON files. Depending on how a sticker was saved or converted you may also end up with an animated WebP or a GIF. This converter reads APNG, PNG, WebP and GIF.

Formats this converter reads

• APNG and PNG. The frames, their timing and the loop are kept. A PNG that does not move becomes a single-frame GIF, and the tool says so.
• Animated and still WebP. Browsers that can decode animated WebP frame by frame do it natively. Firefox and older browsers use a built-in fallback that reads each frame itself, so the result is the same.
• GIF. Use it to resize a GIF, change its frame rate, or replace its transparency with a background color.
• Lottie (.json). Coming soon. A Lottie file is vector animation data rather than a picture, so it needs a different kind of conversion.

Transparency in a GIF

A sticker can have soft, semi-transparent edges. A GIF cannot: each pixel is either fully see-through or fully solid. If the converter simply cut at 50 percent you would get jagged outlines or a dark halo. Instead you choose what the soft edge pixels blend into.

Keep transparent leaves the see-through area see-through and blends the soft edge with an edge color, so the outline looks right on the chat color it will be shown on. The default is Discord's dark chat color, and white suits light themes. Fill with a solid background gives the whole GIF one background color and no transparency, which is the safest choice for apps that show GIFs on odd backgrounds.

Size, frame rate and file size

Discord shows a sticker at about 160 pixels on desktop, and 128×128 is the size Discord emoji are uploaded at, so those two sizes are on the menu next to the original size and a custom size. A GIF plays at 50 frames per second at most and stores each delay in hundredths of a second, so very short frames are merged and the animation keeps its length. Capping the frame rate at 20 or 15 makes a smaller file.
